What is Image Cropper?
Crop images with live preview controls and export the selected composition. It accepts JPG, JPEG, PNG, WEBP files and gives you a CROPPED result you can download straight away. The work happens in your browser tab, so the file you choose is not uploaded to our servers.
How to use Image Cropper
- Choose the image to crop.
- Enter the crop ratio (width divided by height). A value of 1 gives a square, 1.78 gives roughly 16:9.
- Click Convert now to cut out that area.
- Download the cropped image.
Format notes
- JPG: A lossy format that suits photographs and produces small files. It does not support transparency.
- JPEG: The same format as JPG (the two extensions are interchangeable). Best for photos, not for logos or screenshots with sharp text.
- PNG: A lossless format that keeps sharp edges and supports transparency, which makes it a good choice for logos, screenshots and graphics. Photos saved as PNG are often much larger than JPG.
- WEBP: A modern web format that is usually smaller than JPG or PNG at similar quality and supports transparency. Supported by all current major browsers.
Tips for better results
Crop to the aspect ratio the destination needs (square for profile pictures, 16:9 for video thumbnails) so that the platform does not crop it for you.
A worked example
To make a square profile picture from a landscape photo, leave the ratio at 1. The tool cuts the largest centred square from the image. For a 16:9 video thumbnail, enter 1.78.
If something goes wrong
- The subject is cut off. The crop is always centred. If your subject is off to one side, move it to the middle in an editor first or choose a different ratio.
- The output is smaller than expected. The crop uses the largest area that fits the ratio, so a very wide ratio on a tall photo produces a thin strip. Check the ratio you typed.
Privacy and limits
Because processing happens locally, very large files depend on your device's memory and may be slow on older phones. If a conversion fails, try a smaller file or a different browser. See our privacy policy for details on how the site handles data.
