What is PNG to WEBP?
Compress PNG graphics into modern WEBP files while keeping crisp quality. It accepts PNG files and gives you a WEBP result you can download straight away. The work happens in your browser tab, so the file you choose is not uploaded to our servers.
How to use PNG to WEBP
- Choose one image with the Choose files button or drag it into the drop area.
- Click Convert now. The conversion runs in your browser and the file is not uploaded.
- Check the preview, then download the converted image.
Format notes
- PNG: A lossless format that keeps sharp edges and supports transparency, which makes it a good choice for logos, screenshots and graphics. Photos saved as PNG are often much larger than JPG.
- WEBP: A modern web format that is usually smaller than JPG or PNG at similar quality and supports transparency. Supported by all current major browsers.
Tips for better results
Converting large PNG graphics to WEBP can cut file size significantly. Keep the original PNG as your master copy.
A worked example
A 1.2 MB transparent banner is too heavy for your homepage. Converting to WEBP keeps the transparency and commonly trims a large share of the size. Place the result on both a light and a dark background to check the edges.
If something goes wrong
- The result looks softer than the PNG. Lossy compression can soften fine lines and small text. Keep a PNG for images dominated by text.
- Downloaded file is still PNG. Your browser did not produce WEBP. Use a different browser, then compare file sizes again.
Privacy and limits
Because processing happens locally, very large files depend on your device's memory and may be slow on older phones. If a conversion fails, try a smaller file or a different browser. See our privacy policy for details on how the site handles data.
