What is JPG to WEBP?
Create lightweight WEBP images from JPG files for faster websites. It accepts JPG, JPEG files and gives you a WEBP result you can download straight away. The work happens in your browser tab, so the file you choose is not uploaded to our servers.
How to use JPG to WEBP
- Choose one image with the Choose files button or drag it into the drop area.
- Click Convert now. The conversion runs in your browser and the file is not uploaded.
- Check the preview, then download the converted image.
Format notes
- JPG: A lossy format that suits photographs and produces small files. It does not support transparency.
- JPEG: The same format as JPG (the two extensions are interchangeable). Best for photos, not for logos or screenshots with sharp text.
- WEBP: A modern web format that is usually smaller than JPG or PNG at similar quality and supports transparency. Supported by all current major browsers.
Tips for better results
WEBP files are typically noticeably smaller than JPG at similar quality, which helps pages load faster. Check that the visitors you care about use a browser that supports WEBP.
A worked example
A 900 KB product photo is slowing your shop page. Converting it to WEBP often brings it well under 700 KB at similar quality, and the saving grows across many images. Compare both files at 100 percent zoom before replacing the original.
If something goes wrong
- The WEBP is not smaller. Some browsers cannot encode WEBP from a canvas and silently produce PNG instead. Try Chrome, Edge or Firefox, and check the downloaded file type.
- Visitors with older software cannot see it. Current major browsers show WEBP, but some email programs and office tools do not. Keep a JPG copy for those cases.
Privacy and limits
Because processing happens locally, very large files depend on your device's memory and may be slow on older phones. If a conversion fails, try a smaller file or a different browser. See our privacy policy for details on how the site handles data.
